Foreign Languages

MIS offers either French or Spanish as year-long courses for students from grade 7-10.

Four different course levels are offered to students: beginner, pre-intermediate, intermediate, and advanced.
In each course, equal emphasis is placed on listening, reading, writing, and speaking.  Students naturally progress from one course to the other once they meet the curriculum and grammar prerequisites for the following level.

Beginner and Pre-Intermediate courses:

  • Introduce students to a variety of vocabulary and grammar structure to enable them to communicate in everyday situations.

  • Students are introduced to the various cultures connected to the language of study.

Intermediate and Advanced courses:

  • Expand on aspects of the beginner/pre-intermediate course, such as fluency, grammar, and cultural understanding

  • The texts studied are more complex and students are expected to express themselves in detail using a range of language
